AZ Pie Round Up

Join us in sponsoring the 1st annual Arizona Blue Ribbon Pie Round-Up and Bake-Off.

This unique culinary competition combines the sounds, smells and tastes of Arizona’s history. Young Chefs, Amateur, Professional and Commercial bakers present their savory or sweet pies for public tastings. The public will decide the winners in each category, as well as the Best of Show.

In addition, the Arizona Blue Ribbon Pie Round-Up & Bake-Off will feature a LIVE BAKE-OFF! Three pre-qualified contestants from each category: young chefs, amateur, professional and commercial bakers will compete live on Sunday, January 22, 2012 in Highland High Schools’ Food and Consumer Science lab. A live audience and celebrity judges will determine the winners.

The Arizona Blue Ribbon Pie Round-Up & Bake-Off will feature entertainment and activities that highlight Arizona’s history, cooking and local foods. This event is family-friendly, alcohol-free and benefits Gilbert Public Schools.

We expect 100 to 150 pie bakers from all corners of Arizona. On Saturday, the public will decide the winners in each category, as well as the Best of Show, additionally, live Arizona Innovations Pie Demonstrations will be held in the Demo Kitchen of Highland High School. On Sunday, Judges including local celebrities and food notables will carefully consider each contest’s savory and sweet pie offerings. A public gallery will watch the event live and also enjoy sampling pies from each contestant. 


Schedule:

Saturday, November 12, 2011: Pre-Qualifying for Live Bake-Off. The public is invited to help judge savory and sweet pies from contestants vying for three Bake-Off positions in each category.

Saturday, January 21, 2012: Main Event day featuring Public Tastings from 10 to 4:00pm, Antique Apron and Cookbook Display, Entertainment, Gilbert Public School: Culinary Clubs offer Savory Lunch & Dinner Pie for sale, FFA Clubs created Pie Safes and Clay Clubs created Pie Plates Sale; Craft Fair, Antique Roadshow, Silent Auction, Raffle, Chef Apron, Coat and Cap Sale, interactive family activities (wagon rides, Arizona Centennial Copper Chopper, etc.) and demonstrations (Arizona Innovation Pie Demo, quilting, etc.)

General Admission: $5.00 includes 20 tastings, to have more pie tastings it’s only an additional .25 per ticket. You can buy desserts from vendors, they are extra. Children under 10 Free with paid admission.

Sunday, January 22, 2012: Three Young Middle School Chefs and three High School Chefs compete 7:00 to 10:00. Three Adult Amateur Chefs and three Senior Chefs compete 11:00 to 2:00. Three Professional Chefs and three Commercial Chefs compete 3:00 to 6:00.
