Hot Dog Days of  Summer 2022.  Oof!…the dog days of summer are hitting hard. ? Stay cool! Tips to stay cool!

The dog days or dog days of summer are the hot, sultry days of summer. They were historically the period following the heliacal rising of the star system Sirius  ( known colloquially as the “Dog Star”), which Hellenistic astrology connected with heat, drought, sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, fever, mad dogs, and bad luck. They are now taken to be the hottest, most uncomfortable part of summer in the Northern Hemisphere.

For many of us around the globe it’s been a very hot June & July, and I have a feeling August will have us reaching for the “H2O martinis” (with generous amounts of ice, no doubt).

Considering this, here are a few (reminder) tips to stay hydrated, so you can enjoy your wine, beer, spirits and other adult beverages while feeling better doing so.

  • Hydrate when you get up in the morning. If you’re a coffee person, have a glass or two of water as your pot brews.
  • Not a fan of water? Try adding some lemon, lime, orange or cucumber slices…it’s a game changer if water seems too blah to you. And if you’re feeling fancy, sip it from a wine glass.
  • Still not a fan of water – even with the extras? Eat your water by enjoying summer fruits like strawberries, cantaloupe, peaches or the big kahuna of hydration, the watermelon (no vodka in that melon, though – save that for happy hour).
  • If you like tech, there are apps for tracking water consumption and even hi-tech water bottles that’ll help keep you on top of your hydration goals (yes, that’s a thing).
  • Eat Jello!
  • If you drink tea or coffee, drink it HOT! It will cool your inner body down.
  • Charge up your batteries for your devices, when then get hot, they get to zero pretty fast.
  • Get rest and sleep for yourself as well.
