Making an apple crumble, is quite easy actually. Years ago when I first got started, a friend of mine PJ and I would get together make crumbles and pies.
Below we are making an apple one, at the same time we also got gifted some plums. We made plum crumbles too!
The basic recipe for the fruit crumb filling is:
1 cup sugar – reduce the sugar or replace it with a replacement if you would like.
3/4 cups flour
2 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon ( like more spice than this, I also add 1/2 teaspoon cloves, allspice and nutmeg)
6 Tablespoons of butter
Mix all the ingredients together – you can use a fork or I like to use the pastry cutter. This recipe doesn’t call for oatmeal, I will also add about 1/4 cup to the flour. One of the lessons I’ve learned working with butter – DO NOT MELT IT, let it soften on it’s own. The reason is the pastry or mixture become tough.
You may if you would like use a pastry crust on the bottom or just grease your bowl, put in about 3 cups of fruit and bake in the oven at 350 degrees for about 30 -45 minutes. Once again it will depend upon how hot your oven gets.
In this video I’ve given you a recipe, it’s a different recipe. I hope you enjoy the post. Love to hear your comments.
